Tracy Riggs Frontz loves languages - the language of writing, the language of photography, the language of music, the language of those who deal with invisible illnesses, and the language of the Deaf.
She has over 400 published articles and work in three anthologies to her credit. In 2025, Tracy released her debut book: "Behind the Lens of a Storyteller: My Journey as a Photographer-Writer." Though she's been a photographer the majority of her life, she has only been a professional writer for the last six years. But even though she's new at writing, she's already won many local and one national writing awards.
Invisible illnesses are a major part of Tracy and her family’s lives. She’s zealous about lessening this stigma and helping others with recovery any way she can. In her blog “Spotlight on Stigma: Welcomed but Not Accepted,” she shares her perspective of coping with these issues woven in with her faith journey from deconstructing to once again embracing her Christian beliefs, as well as random thoughts about life.
Tracy also loves learning sign language and music. She’s plays guitar with her hearing church’s worship team and often attends a Deaf Church where she is able combine her love of sign and music by signing worship and contemporary Christian songs. She and her husband, Travis, hope to become certified ASL interpreters one day in the future.
First-time author and award-winning photographer and writer
Tracy Riggs Frontz weaves struggles with faith and
invisible illnesses while establishing herself as a
freelance photographer and writer in
Behind the Lens of a Storyteller: My Journey as a Photographer-Writer.
After a major setback in her late 40s resulted in moving back to her home state, Frontz was finally able to pursue a life-long dream – a full-time photography career. However, other than having a good eye and 40+ years of trial-and-error photography experience, she had no idea how to accomplish this seemingly insurmountable feat.
In an era of increasing gig work and side jobs, the highly relevant Behind the Lens of a Storyteller is an easy read that tells the behind-the-scenes story of her life trying to make it as a freelancer. Woven throughout are examples of how God was working – even during moments of little faith, extreme anxiety, multiplying health diagnoses, and weeks of barely making enough to pay the bills.
On that journey, she learned that God was ever-present, even when circumstances showed differently. Deconstructing her faith while reestablishing her purpose, she came out stronger… and discovered grace she never imagined was possible.
“The years I’ve done this have been incredible… and horrible,” she shared. “There have been so many days I’m ashamed of… where my faith and trust were nonexistent… so many days I wish I could have a do-over… yet so many amazingly wonderful days. But now, with my whole heart, I can proclaim that God was with me the entire time.”
Behind the Lens of a Storyteller: My Journey as a Photographer-Writer isn’t a how-to book, though there is a bonus chapter with writing and photography tips. It’s quirky, fun, and encouraging - geared to those who with similar struggles while simultaneously revealing how the average person can discover a passion through unusual channels that turns out to be all part of God’s plan.
